Sixty years ago today, @theofficialfourtops released their self-titled album on @motownrecords. The album is filled with sweet songs of love and loss, including their first Top 20 hit, “Baby, I Need Your Loving.” United by their friendship and a love of music, the Four Tops stuck together for forty years. Their classy, polished vocals, in combination with the brilliant songwriting of Holland-Dozier-Holland at Motown Records, made them an unstoppable hit machine. 🎶

In Memoriam: As a master of the organ, piano, accordion, and saxophone, 1994 Inductee Garth Hudson was a key architect of the sound of @the_band_official_, one of the most influential rock groups of all time. With the classically trained Hudson contributing unique sounds and textures, The Band became the embodiment of what is now called Americana music, synthesizing country, R&B, early rock & roll, and folk music while thematically fusing the past with the present. The Band’s impact on the music that came after them is immeasurable. Following the break-up of the group, Hudson went on to become an in-demand session musician, recording with numerous artists including Hall of Famers Elton John, Van Morrison, and Tom Petty.

On this track, Gaye’s voice nurtures the soul and is a powerful example of rock & roll's ability to question the status quo, push for justice, and demand action in the face of inequality.
